MICROCAVE: A SMALL COMPROMISE (INTERVIEW)

MICROCAVE: A SMALL COMPROMISE (INTERVIEW)

Microcave has been bubbling in the cauldron of Long Island, New York for well over a decade. The time has come for their first official offering, ‘A Small Compromise’, set for release on December 12th. Long Island has produced a number of good bands over the years, along with a slew of absolute maniacs. It happens to be one of my favorite places on earth because it’s made up of characters of all colors, shapes, and sizes infused with the overarching shadows of New York City and the waves of the Atlantic. It’s definitely played a part in shaping the textured sound and style of Microcave.

Keyboardist Steve Lasker, bassist Paulie Katz, and guitarist James DelliSanti have been friends since they were kids. It’s hard enough for some people to remain friends that long let alone continually elevate on their collective musical pursuit. The psychodynamics behind a rock band are bonkers, a jam band? Pshhh. A jam band that plays rock and electronic music? Lunacy. So off the rip, I have a lot of respect for them. I’m sure they’ve weathered some storms to get where they are today. Once drummer D.S. Lyons left the band, it only made sense that Kito Bovenschulte would step up to the plate. He’s the complete package and with the other three already operating as a well-oiled machine, Cave was off to the races.

A Small Compromise captures a polished hunger that represents the past, present, and future of Microcave. It’s a giant leap in the right direction, presenting listeners with a cohesive body of work that undoubtedly promotes their lives shows. From ‘Sequencer' to ‘Hudson's Retreat’, their spectrum of sound is showcased from start to finish. Strap in for an exploration of livetronic saturation that will leave you buzzed with the juxtaposition of utopian darkness.

It’s all there, baby. See for yourself.

Microcave will be performing at Silk City Diner in Philadelphia on Thursday, December 15th before their official album release party with Newpy Hundo at Backyard Ale House in Scranton, PA on Saturday, December 16th.
