Biscoween 2015: The Disco Biscuits Are Ready to Get Spooky in Syracuse

After not playing a Halloween show in five years, The Disco Biscuits are stepping up to the plate with a three night run. Five years ago they joined the String Cheese Incident in Charlottesville, Virginia. This year's Halloween extravaganza will start on the 29th in Boston at The Orpheum Theater. The band hasn't performed in Boston since 2010 so New England fans are very excited. From there they'll head to Syracuse; on the 30th they'll be at the F Shed and on the 31st they'll be at the Crouse Hinds Theater. Brownie will be spinning late-night DJ sets on the 30th and 31st at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston and King of Clubs in Syracuse. The Disco Biscuits have never played shows at either venues so it will be uncharted territory for both the band and fans. The Disco Biscuits haven't played a legit show in Syracuse since 1998, so it's pretty obvious that upstate Bisco heads are rejoicing with the New England ones. Why wouldn't they be?

Everyone is ready for an all out Biscoween party, fans are fiending for a taste of the Biscuits' signature trance-fusion. The dark and dirty jams will fit perfectly with the spooky themes of Halloween. There is no other band that I'd rather spend the night with than the Disco Biscuits. After coming off a few great shows in Chicago, the four-piece is ready to show fans that they mean business. 2015 marked the twentieth anniversary for the Disco Biscuits. The entire year has been one giant celebration, it's actually proved to be the best year for the band since 2010. There is no doubt about that. The energy has been on an upswing and everyone knows it. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up throwing down the best Halloween show since drummer Allen Aucoin joined the band in 2005. Out of all the Halloween shows that I've listened to, the one from 2000 stands out as the best. If they can come close to matching this show, it will be unbelievably marvelous.

There have been multiple glimpses of their musical magic all year. Bisco Inferno was proper and Camp Bisco was absolutely spectacular. The Biscuits are playing with a certain freshness, the jams aren't stale and they've continued to break new ground. Bassist Marc Brownstein mentioned that they brought back rotational jamming, allowing guitarist Jon "the Barber" Gutwillig to spearhead most jams, and it has paid off big time. I'm hoping that they bring this style of playing to Syracuse. I also want them to bust out some songs that they haven't played in a while. There's a good chance that they'll do just that, maybe they'll bust out a brand new cover. We can only hope.

This will be my first Biscoween and it just happens to be in my home state. I'm looking forward to some deep-seated, high energy jams with consistent heartbeat and distinguished melodies. Aron Magner's synthesizers will pierce through the minds of everyone in attendance, making their feet move and heads sway uncontrollably. Allen Aucoin's break-beats will shoot through you, leaving you stomping through the tile of the Crouse Hinds Theater. Marc Brownstein's bass lines will seamlessly fit with the kick drum of Aucoin, creating a rhythmic assault of pulsating untz and thumping low end grooves. Jon Gutwillig will bring it all home with incredibly crafted improvisation, his fingers will soar up and down the neck of his hollow body Gibson with loose precision that tightens the nuts and bolts of Disco Biscuits' jams. Horizon Wireless will be throwing down an epic after-party on Halloween, he said, "The after-party will be a multi-verse meet-up". It will undoubtedly be just that. After talking to fans that are flying into Boston and Syracuse from across the country, one thing is for sure, everyone is ecstatic that they're attending Biscoween. On the other hand, everyone who can't make it is worried that they're going to miss out on something huge, which they definitely will. Sorry guys. I have very high expectations for this three-night run and I'm very confident that they'll be met. After listening to past Halloween shows, the elated emotion continues to grow. See everyone in Syracuse. Let's get spooky!
