SPACE BACON EXCURSIONS: OCTOBER 2023
Is it possible to have your “finger on the pulse” as a music writer while taking a hiatus? Probably not. But one does not lose their cultivated level of observance after a mere stint of physical absence. Echoes from the grapevine boom through the silence of distance and time. Distance plays tricks on us and causes our connectivity to rust; the old proverb rings true, “out of sight, out of mind.” But it is no match for one’s passion when it comes to live music and bonds of true friendship. Closeness is not always determined by spacial relativity. Time erodes the body, and even the mind, but what the spirit gains through the gifts of creativity has the potential to outlast the hands on the clock.
While Space Bacon dives headfirst into new markets, taking advantage of new opportunities, things change but stay the same. That is the beauty of authenticity. That is the beauty of autumn. Strong roots bring bursts of copper and bronze, twenty-four karat gold and fire engine red; there is a newness, and while it is expected, it never loses its magic. Fitzgerald once wrote, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” A childlike excitement propels us into a change of heart and a change of pace, and as the pages turn, the story of Space Bacon rolls on, blending with the changing colors of the Northeast; everything is as it is supposed to be.
The October sky stretches atop the New York State Thruway inviting the fusion of nostalgia and wonder. Both prime elements utilized in songwriting and improvisation… especially for a band birthed in the crevices of New York City. The quartet, with Freddy Rylands comfortably leading the way on guitar, embarks north to Biscoland and Nectars in Burlington. This is the second time that Space Bacon will officially be a part of a Disco Biscuits production and it just feels right. It is increasingly special as this is the first ever Biscoland at Wonderland Forest in the hills of Lafayette, New York. Bacon will light the fuse to the event at 4:30 pm on Friday, October 6th. Call out of work and be there.
Autumn in New York is the golden hour of the year. What better way to spend it than catching a Space Bacon set at a brand new event? If you can’t make it out to Biscoland (big mistake) or Burlington, you can catch them in Bridgeport, Saratoga Springs, Worcester, OR Philadelphia. It’s going to be a momentous month of high stakes jamming within the poetic fabric that is autumn in motion. This band has a lot more to offer to the world of live music. Whether you’ve been a fan for years or you just saw them for the first time, the SB catering service is in full force and the platters will be hitting your tables consistently from this point forward. Bring your appetite and bring your friends.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this story is far from over. There is a monumental chapter on the horizon. God willing, I will see you on the road.
Respectfully,
Z Franck
