An Interview with Chachuba
Zachary Franck interviewing Chachuba
Chachuba is a four-piece from Chicago that blends improvisational music with electronic production in a way that is fresh and unique. They are one of the most authentic up and coming jamtronica bands in the scene. They sat down with TPC to talk about their origin and what they have planned in the near future. If you haven’t heard of them, we’re happy to make the introduction. You’ll definitely be hearing their music and seeing them on a stage near you soon enough.
ZF: For people that don't know, who is Chachuba and where are you guys from?
CC: Chachuba is the collective mind of 4 dudes who will try anything once. We play out of Chicago. Our mission is to fuse elements of various electronic genres with live band styles like jazz, funk, surf rock, vegan post-core etc.
ZF: In a few sentences, what's the best way to describe your sound?
CC: Driving, pulsating, force of never-ending layers and melodies, dripping with psychedelia, 808’s, 909's, and more.
ZF: Who are some of your biggest influences of the past and present?
CC: Some of our past influences include: The Disco Biscuits, Brothers Past, EOTO, Ozric Tentacles STS9, and more. More current influences are: Tyco, Apex Twin, Boards of Canada, Yanni, vapor wave, and Enya.
ZF: If you could give a new fan one link to check out that captures your sound the best, what would it be?
CC: We would want them to hear our latest studio album. We took a different direction in writing with this one and believe we are on a good path. Click HERE to listen!
ZF: There are a lot of great up and coming bands around the country. Are there any specific ones that you'd guys like to play some shows or collaborate with?
CC: There are tons of amazing acts out there now. We could honestly see ourselves playing with a lot of them whether it be a live band or producers. This Fall though we are hoping to join forces with our new friends from out east, Space Bacon. Maybe we’ll even get invited to join Paul Simon on tour at which we would feature rising star Chrisy Vapor on vocals and saxophone.
ZF: What venues are you guys setting your sites on for 2020?
CC: We don't really have any specific venues in mind vs us just trying to get out to the East Coast and Colorado more frequently then he has in the past. Lots of big plans for 2020 including bigger tours and hopefully some bigger support slots!
ZF: Where would you like to see yourselves in two years?
CC: We are hoping that we will no longer be working our day jobs and traveling with Jimmy Buffet doing boat tours around Europe with unlimited snacks and snipers. But we’ll see..
