MIND THE GAP

MIND THE GAP

When I’m able to surf through the digitized clutter and quiet the mind, the depth of my breath increases while the antenna of my wavelength extends to God; the source for all that is good and true. I close my eyes to feel the world around me. Late February sunshine directs symphonies of birds as they move through arrangements of joy. Vivid memories of immoral deceit often work to disrupt the essence of the present, provoking shame to override contentment; a civil war of spirituality within the alliance of one’s psyche and soul. Though uncomfortable, reinvigorating and necessary, for what is the serenity of bird songs without the guttural disturbance of a barking mutt fighting to get off its leash. We must seek to interpret the lessons of duality found in these animalistic expressions.

Everything that has happened in my life - the good, the bad, and the indifferent, has landed me a seat at the base of a pyramid that points to freedom. Still, I savor the chaos of my past, the rabid circumstances of the fast and loose lifestyle. The contagion of criminality. The vulnerability of heartbreak. The desire for dirty money. The unconditional love of a single mother. The humility of tasting your own blood. The hallucinations of enlightenment. The hedonistic explorations of lust. The ugliness of self. The bricks that make up this foundation.

The chaos trained me to pursue order, it taught me how to speak a language that transcends continents and cultures, it allowed my spirit to internalize the animalistic expressions of this world as I move onto my studies of the unseen realm. When I am able to transform my self-loathing into self-acceptance, my judgements are replaced by humble teachings. The antidote to venom is found in the wellspring of life; protect it at all costs. We are often controlled by what we consume. Mind the gap between your mind and the outside world.
