Space Bacon & Microcave: Bands That Really Jam (Wilkes-Barre Preview)

Space Bacon & Microcave: Bands That Really Jam (Wilkes-Barre Preview)

Written by Zachary Franck

There are a lot of great jam bands coming up in the scene right now. It’s been a tremendous year as we’ve seen smaller acts evolve and climb their way to the next level. Some bands pride themselves on being polished and technical, never going too deep into the murky waters of the unknown. Other bands aim to keep it raw and experimental, pushing their improvisation as far as it can go on any given night. It’s a unique balance that makes live music the ever-changing anomaly that it is. When it comes to the latter of the two, Space Bacon and Microcave are prime representations – both bands catapult themselves into uncharted territory, fueled by the electric wonder of “going type 2” every single time they touch the stage.

If you’d like to see if that statement is indeed a fact, tomorrow night is the night to do so. Space Bacon will be throwing down two sets at the River Street Jazz Café in Wilkes-Barre, PA on Saturday, December 6th. With support from Microcave and our crews favorite DJ, Newpy Hundo, it’s guaranteed to be one of the most memorable shows of Bacon’s tour thus far. The band is beginning to break through to the next stage in their career and their shows have continuously gotten better as the year rolls on. Coming off multiple sold out shows in the northeast and a packed house for their Chicago debut, they’re ready to crank things up a notch and give Northeastern Pennsylvania two sets of high-octane jamtronica in its rawest form.

When it comes to northeast jamtronica, Microcave has been carving out a lane for themselves in a relatively short period of time. They’ve been writing new material and are ready to finish the year strong with two big shows alongside Bacon (they’re also opening for Space Bacon on 12/29 at Mercury Lounge). The four-piece from Long Island/Philadelphia bring the crowd into a sonic dungeon of their own creation, it gets dark and fast. If you haven’t listened to any of their soundboards yet, you should check out the one posted below.

If you’re in the tristate area and you’re on the fence about coming out to Wilkes-Barre, stop being indecisive and click here to buy your ticket. The tickets aren’t expensive and it’s relatively easy to get to from NYC/Philly/Jersey, hotel rooms are also very cheap! This bill is a firsthand look into the future; Space Bacon with Microcave & Newpy Hundo is something that you’ll be seeing again (and again). So, you might as well come out to the River Street Jazz Café on Saturday and witness these bands at the ground floor while you can, because it’s only going up from here.
