There is a big difference between corporatized music festivals and grassroots music festivals, especially when it comes to the overall vibe. Over the past ten years, a good amount of festivals have come and gone, some good and some not-so-good. It’s far from easy to create and continue to build a music festival that thrives in today’s day and age without a big budget backing. So, when one breaks the mold and evolves to the next level, it’s undoubtedly special, and that’s exactly what Disc Jam is. Disc Jam Music Festival has been held at three different venues, in two different states, and never once lost its footing on the climb to success. Tony Scavone has established a team of individuals that are truly passionate about live music, with one mission in mind, to create the best possible experience for those that are attending. The festival reached capacity for the first-time last year and there’s a good possibility that it will happen again this year.
From June 6th to June 9th, Disc Jam Music Festival will take place at Gardner’s Farm in Stephentown, NY. This venue has been one of the defining factors in the festival’s growth. The grounds are ideal for the layout, with more than enough room for camping, while still being compact enough for the stages to be close. Besides the two mainstages and the tent stage, the woods stage gives patrons another area to check out and explore. Not only do attendees love the layout of the festival, multiple artists have spoken about how much they enjoy it. If you’ve never been, the simplicity is extremely easy to figure out. All the vendors are in the mainstage area and there is a gas station across the street from the festival for any other items you may need.
The Disc Jam Fam is what makes this festival what it is today. There is a collective of musicians and individuals that work in the industry that have been in attendance for years. Together, they’ve built a strong foundation with love for the music and love for the festival itself. This year is a culmination of both and it’s evident when looking over the lineup. From one familiar act to the next, the schedule is strong from start to finish. From Aqueous and Circles Around The Sun on Thursday to Dopapod and Sunsquabi on Friday, the first two days are more than solid. Saturday is by far one of the best single days of music this summer: Lotus with Barber and Friends, John K & The West Philly Fadeaway, Papadosio, Kung Fu, Ghost Light and the list goes on and on. Then, on Sunday, the final day of the festival, you get Pink Talking Fish, Ghost Light (again), Star Kitchen (one of the hottest new acts in the scene), and DrFameus!
