SPACE SHIP Sets Sail On Saturday: Don't Get Left At The Marina
Words by Zachary Franck
Summer evenings in the mighty metropolis of New York provide a feeling that is often unmatched. The breeze delicately dances across the East River with an inviting presence. Your imagination runs wild as you visualize the late nights and early mornings of yesteryear. We’re not getting any younger, those fleeting moments of our youth have slowly started to vanish. With that being said, it’s vital to live a little and have some fun; go out for some drinks with your friends, see some live music, or maybe you could take a boat cruise around the island of Manhattan. If only there was an event that included all three of those, oh yeah, there is.
SPACE SHIP is the inaugural Space Bacon/Rocks Off Boat Cruise taking place aboard The Lucille on Saturday, July 28th. The ship will be departing from Skyport Marina which is located at E 23rd street & FDR Drive. The boarding process will begin at 6pm and we’ll be setting sail at 7pm, do not be late. Not only is Space Bacon one of the hottest up and coming acts in the scene, they are New York City’s premier jam band, which makes this event that much more special. It’s going to be pretty cool to see them throw down two incredible sets as we float past the Statue of Liberty. Hunter S. Thompson once said, “So we shall let the reader answer this question for himself: who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?”. I don’t know about you, but the answer is pretty clear to me, don’t be the person that’s stuck on the shore as we sail into the horizon. If you’re reading this, the event is already sold out, so I hope you have a ticket. If you don’t have a ticket, I’d advise you to cut a back-alley deal or bribe somebody. Trust me, you do not want to miss this.
The band is elated to be able to curate this unique event for their fan base. A lot of the individuals that will be on the boat have watched Space Bacon grow since the beginning, this is going to be an unforgettable night for everyone on board. I’ve been talking to keyboardist Chris Gironda and guitarist Jack Willard and I can tell that they’re very excited for this. They’ve had a nice break from shows during the past two months, they’re recharged and ready to get back to the music. When I asked Chris about it, he said, “The last few weeks have been good to rest and recover from the grind of our Spring dates. We’ve written some new tunes, dusted off some old ones, and are ready to bring home the Bacon back in NYC. The boat show is going to be a one of a kind experience that may never happen again, so do not miss it.”
After months of planning and promoting, SPACE SHIP is finally here. This is going to be a monumental Space Bacon experience that’s looked back on for years to come. The band and their team cannot wait to see everybody’s smiling faces on board. We’ll see you on the East River on Saturday evening!
