The Disco Biscuits are returning to Philadelphia, after a triumphant New Year's run in Times Square. They're prepared to blow the roof off The Fillmore, Philadelphia's new premier music venue. It's always awesome to see the band on stages that they've never played before - it's especially awesome when it's in the city where they started. They've thrown down a number of legendary shows at pretty much every venue that Philadelphia has to offer, so it's going to be a fresh experience for everyone who is in the room that night.
Now that some time has passed since the Disco Biscuits played a four-night New Year's run in Times Square, I feel that I can properly review what took place. Four nights of extensive risks and deliberate bliss from the kings of jamtronica, the Disco Biscuits. I've been listening to the soundboards nonstop since they were released and they haven't gotten old yet. Each night has something that stands out - a segment, standalone, or transition that is worth relistening to. The Disco Biscuits have been playing music for twenty years. Not only that, but they've continued to progress and experiment.
New Year's Eve is one of the most anticipated weekends of the year for any live music fan. For several of us, this meant Lotus would be ringing in our new year once again, in the most blissful way possible.
It's been a magnificent year for the Disco Biscuits and their team. Since the beginning of it, their shows have continuously gotten tighter while staying explorative and balanced. The jamtronica pioneers from Philadelphia have proven to fans old and new that they’re here to stay. It’s as if they caught a second, well third wind. They went into 2015 with a notable New Years Eve show and they’ll go out of it the same way; with imaginative, idealistic set-lists and exceptional execution.
The Disco Biscuits aren't like many other bands, and they don't want to be. They are one in their own; they're original and they're musical pioneers. A top-notch Disco Biscuits show has the ability to hook you for life. There's no band that can do what they do, how they do it. The Biscuits hadn't played a Halloween show in five years so everyone was anxious to see what would take place.
After not playing a Halloween show in five years, The Disco Biscuits are stepping up to the plate with a three night run. Five years ago they joined the String Cheese Incident in Charlottesville, Virginia. This year's Halloween extravaganza will start on the 29th in Boston at The Orpheum Theatre. The band hasn't performed in Boston for a few years so New England fans are very excited. From there they'll head to Syracuse; on the 30th they'll be at the F Shed and on the 31st they'll be at the Crouse Hinds Theatre.
September ended with brisk mornings and warm smiles. Summer is officially over. It's whimsical vibrancy faded into autumn with a certain smoothness, one that can be felt in the body and mind. Catskill Chill eased me into the next chapter of my life with restored confidence. It's true what they say, my batteries have been recharged.
The thoughts of certain people and places flood my mind in the form of a powerful catharsis, one that is often needed as summer comes to a close. Certain thoughts continuously re-emerge in the back of my mind and bottom of my heart; the imagery of a specific time and place energizes my tired soul. This time and place is Catskill Chill.
This summer has been filled with outstanding music and intrinsic experiences, from one memorable festival to the next. A number of bands and musicians have really stepped it up this year. Lotus is one of those bands, delivering top-notch sets on most occasions. They've continued to perform at a high level while playing shows across the entire country. The time has come for Lotus to return to Nelson Ledges Quarry Park in Garrettsville, Ohio for their annual headlining slot at Summerdance.
Now that the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled, I feel that I can properly sum up Camp Bisco 13. It was undoubtedly one for the history books, an evolved version of the original vision that the Disco Biscuits had so many years ago. From the expanded amenities to the upscale production, the seemingly original festival has taken another step in the right direction.
Yet again, that oh-so special weekend is approaching, and it’s approaching fast. The one specific summer weekend that holds a music festival that stands out from all the rest on the east coast. Camp Bisco, it’s here once again, and fans couldn’t be more excited for its return. From July 16th to July 18th, the legendary festival will be taking place at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
'The first festival of the summer always has this undeniable energy attached to it. It’s an even mix of anxiousness and excitement that fills the heart and mind with passion. It will always be there and it’ll never change; as the years go by, this feeling will remain the same. I don’t know if there’s a better festival than Disc Jam to ease fans into the season. The size, vibe, music, art and production are all top-notch for a festival of its size. Every year, the Disc Jam team impresses me more and more. Tony Scavone seriously has something special that continues to grow organically while staying utterly original.'
Every summer, more and more music festivals sprout up all over the country. Some festivals build a lasting brand that continuously grows; others often fade away after a year or two. Disc Jam is one of the festivals that is here is to stay. The festival has continued to grow with a positive and professional reputation. Started by die-hard music fan Tony Scavone, this will be the festival’s 5th year in the circuit.
